[gradsusr] Font issue

The ‘unable to open file’ message means exactly that: it can’t find “Vera.ttf”. Try using a full path in front of the filename. The Fontconfig error is message is harmless, but it comes from the library not GrADS so I can’t suppress it.

I have an annoying problem when I try defining a new font. I can draw strings without issue, however if I were to display a grid full of values with that font it would display this error message:

Error: Unable to open font file "Vera.ttf"
 Will use a default "sans-serif" font instead
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file

I have tried numerous other fonts and the same problem occurs. I have also tried reinstalling OpenGrADS but have had no luck. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?
