Converting station (ascii) data to binary files

  Dear Grads users,
  I have some precipitation data from around 70 automatic stations which I need to convert in binary files in order to perform some advanced statistical tests and comparison with other datasets on R.
  I looked inside lats4d documentation, with no success at all. Could anyone please point me some directions?
