Hi, Wesley --
I made sure that I could read that gaussian_reduced.grib1 sample file
you gave me. I used grib2ctl v0.9.12.5p39a to write a descriptor
file and a pdef file, then I used GrADS v2 gribmap:

# .gribmap -e -v -i gaussian_reduced.grib1.ctl
grib1map: opening GRIB file: /Users/jma/Desktop/gaussian_reduced.grib1
!!!!! MATCH: 1 1688688 0 255 1 0 129 100
500 1703 0 btim: 2006081712:00 tau: 12 dtim: 2006081800:00
grib1map: reached end of files
grib1map: writing the map...

And then I opened and displayed it with GrADS:

Config: v2.0.a1 little-endian readline printim grib2 netcdf hdf4-sds
Issue 'q config' command for more information.
