With the new version of g2ctl and wgrib2, I can map more of the "NCEP
level type" variables to something more meaningful -- these include
cloud parameters. I will update my descriptor file template today.

The new grib2 format slows down the I/O a bit too, since an entire
global grid must be uncompressed and read into memory, even if you
only need one single gridpoint.
