Brian,
I've just finished (yesterday) compiling the cnvgrib. I've used the
g95 but my OS is Debian.
It took me 2 weeks of hard work and I downloaded all of the packages
including the zlib, jasper and libpng.
If you are working with another OS (like Win XP) my advice to you is
to contact the NCEP Operational Branch for support. I couldn't get
here without their help.
