conversion of grads to nc file

hi,
     I want to convert the grads binary data file to netcdf. I can do it very easyly by lat4d for grided data. But the problem comes with the station data file. Say I have station data file 1990new.grads, 1990new.map and 1990new.ctl. The data descripor file is like below,

dset  ^1990new.grads
dtype   station
stnmap  1990new.map
undef   -9999.00
title   rain 
tdef  365 linear 01jan1990 1dy
vars   1 
rain 0 99 rain
endvars 


But the lats4d is giving some error about invalid dimension environment, and error creating coards nc file. 

I cannot figure out what is the problem, can anyone suggest me any wayout?
