Thanks for so many friends' help!!! I tried the current grib2ctl version(0.9.12.5p33k),and all my records matched!!! but i still puzzled by some commands

Some friends suggested me of different options, such as ¨C0 or ¨Cverf. I look for the manual, it says when using initial time, GRIB2CTL has nothing and GRIBMAP has ¨C0 ; when using verification time, GRIB2CTL has ¨Cverf and GRIBMAP has nothing.

My questions are:

1. By which result do we determine the data is at verification time or initial time?

The following are parts of my WGRIB result:

1:0:d=98010100:2T:kpds5=167:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=123:P1=0:P2=24:TimeU=1:sfc:anl:ave at 24hr:mon mean:NAve=31

2:21132:d=98010106:2T:kpds5=167:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=123:P1=0:P2=24:TimeU=1:sfc:anl:ave at 24hr:mon mean:NAve=31

3:42264:d=98010112:2T:kpds5=167:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=123:P1=0:P2=24:TimeU=1:sfc:anl:ave at 24hr:mon mean:NAve=31

4:63396:d=98010118:2T:kpds5=167:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=123:P1=0:P2=24:TimeU=1:sfc:anl:ave at 24hr:mon mean:NAve=31

5:84528:d=98020100:2T:kpds5=167:kpds6=1:kpds7=0:TR=123:P1=0:P2=24:TimeU=1:sfc:anl:ave at 24hr:mon mean:NAve=28

2. when I ignore the warning deliberately,

that is : I use GRIB2CTL in intial time format and GRIBMAP in verification time format, or the reverse, they all work! It seems that the options are not important. It should't be the case, but why my data all matched in spite of the options.

3. Can anybody give me explanations of initial time and verification time? I want to draw time serial of climate variables, which time should I choose?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Dear Dong:

Use the -verf option for grib2ctl.pl. For example,

grib2ctl.pl -verf era40sfc.grib > era40sfc.ctl

I use ERA40 data without any problem.The grib2ctl.pl version I use is 0.9.12.5p32s.

Ben

hi ,everybody
Thanks for suggestions. but I still can't process it.
when I drop -o, the result is the same (only the first four records matched)
and I fail to find current grib2ctl version (0.9.12.5P33K)
Can anyone who has this version Email it to me? Thanks in advance!!!

I meet GRIBEX by chance from internet, it says GRIBEX is the ECMWF grib de- and encoder. My data is ERA-40. I wonder if it is the ECMWF grib data that GRIB2CTL doesn't work correctly.

Hoping for your suggestions and thanks a lot!!!

Dong,

The problem is the following:

the grib file contains 6 hourly forecast data for each day, 00, 06, 12
and 18 hours.
Every day the base date changes.
So to match all the data with one ctl file I would suggest to:

drop "-0" from the call to gribmap , see what that does.

Best regards,
Bernd.
