[gradsusr] Creating "Self describing file"

Can anyone help me with creating a self-describing file for the attached netCDF file?
It contains daily total precipitation (tp) at a single grid point (x = 27.00, y = -29.00) for 14975 time steps starting 1JAN1979
I tried opening in GrADS with sdfopen but receive an error msg
I tried creating a ctl file and opening it with xdfopen but it keeps complaining about "missing or invalid dimension size"
