 Hello, all,
How to change the backgroud continent boundary when mapping. The default one from logitude 0 to 180 to 0, splitting the Africa, how to shift it from latitude -180 to 0 to +180?
Thanks a lot.

Bummer yeah thought so - Ok I’ll see how I go with the regrid function to try and smooth it out a bit better.

Yes, that is an artifact of the underlying grid resolution. The aminlocx and aminlocy functions don’t return sub-grid scale positions. You could try interpolating your SLP to a finer grid and they may smooth out the lines a bit. —Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Quick question with your track maps - I seem to be having an issue with the plot points, it wants to perfectly align the dots in the centre of the grid point when using the aminlocx and aminlocy functions.  This is leading to not nice looking track maps as you can see from below. Is this expected behaviour when you plot your track maps?

Thanks Jennifer,

Yeah I’ve been inspired by your charts so have been trying to make the same thing. I’ll give that a go and see how I go.

Cheers, Mike

With each iteration of calls to aminlocx() and aminlocy() as you loop over time steps, try recentering the domain on the previous SLP minimum and restricting the size of the radius — i.e. how far away from the current minimum you want to look for the next minimum. You could also do a check of each new position to make sure it is reasonably close to the previous position and if not to print out an error message. If the hurricane is moving very fast, or there are other systems nearby, you can get spurious results from the SLP minima calculations.

Hi all,

I’ve been attempting to plot the hurricane track maps using the GFS Ensemble for the Coral Sea region.  I’ve tried using the cone.gs script to plot the uncertainty track and also the ensemble track map however both appear to be getting confused by a secondary low forming which throws off the tracks? I was wondering if anyone has had this issue when dealing with ensemble tracks before.

Cheers, Mike
