[gradsusr] Hurricane Track Map oddities

Hello, all,
How to change the backgroud continent boundary when mapping. The default one from logitude 0 to 180 to 0, splitting the Africa, how to change it from -180 to 0 to +180?

Yes, that is an artifact of the underlying grid resolution. The aminlocx and aminlocy functions don’t return sub-grid scale positions. You could try interpolating your SLP to a finer grid and they may smooth out the lines a bit. —Jennifer

With each iteration of calls to aminlocx() and aminlocy() as you loop over time steps, try recentering the domain on the previous SLP minimum and restricting the size of the radius — i.e. how far away from the current minimum you want to look for the next minimum. You could also do a check of each new position to make sure it is reasonably close to the previous position and if not to print out an error message. If the hurricane is moving very fast, or there are other systems nearby, you can get spurious results from the SLP minima calculations.
