Yes, there is something about the X11 rendering of Cairo commands that fails to draw everything. The ‘gxprint’ command works just fine.

It may be that the problem with X11 in Ubuntu is not the same as the problem with XQuartz, but the symptoms are identical. The test program is here: ftp://cola.gmu.edu/pub/jma/xdemo/xdemo.c


Posso dirti che succede da un certo Mesa in poi, sia con scheda Intel
che Nvidia.
Does “Mesa” mean “mess”?

Ho provato un poco a ciacciare con il double buffering, ma senza successo.

I am not being very helpful because I can't duplicate this problem on the unix systems I have access to. My strategy would be to factor out GrADS and test simple Cairo demo programs (e.g. My xdemo.c mentioned above or some of the more complicated examples at https://www.cairographics.org/Xlib/) and when they fail get help from the Cairo mailing list or from stackoverflow.com<http://stackoverflow.com>, e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33385243/cairo-c-program-wont-draw-to-x11-window. All the better if you can demonstrate that the same program works on Fedora or CentOS but not Ubuntu. Then you have some ammunition to engage the Ubuntu community.
