Yes, there is something about the X11 rendering of Cairo commands that fails to draw everything. The ‘gxprint’ command works just fine. </div>

<div>I am not being very helpful because I can't duplicate this problem on the unix systems I have access to. My strategy would be to factor out GrADS and test simple Cairo demo programs (e.g. My xdemo.c mentioned above or some of the more complicated examples
at <a href="https://www.cairographics.org/Xlib/">https://www.cairographics.org/Xlib/</a>) and when they fail get help from the Cairo mailing list or from
<a href="http://stackoverflow.com">stackoverflow.com</a>, e.g. <a href="http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33385243/cairo-c-program-wont-draw-to-x11-window">http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33385243/cairo-c-program-wont-draw-to-x11-window</a>. All the better
if you can demonstrate that the same program works on Fedora or CentOS but not Ubuntu. Then you have some ammunition to engage the Ubuntu community. </div>
