[gradsusr] Create template file for Hycom data

OK, if I understand correctly…
In the filename it seems that the ‘t036’ is a forecast hour and ‘2017121700’ is the initialization time.
And you would like to template two files that are 36-hour forecasts initialized 24 hours apart?
hycom_glb_912_2017121600_t036_uv3z.nc (valid 12z17dec)
hycom_glb_912_2017121700_t036_uv3z.nc (valid 12z18dec)
If that is the case, then the date strings in the file naming convention aren’t useful for this sort of templating, so you’ll have to do it with brute force using CHSUB:
dset ^hycom_glb_912_%ch_uv3z.nc
chsub 1 1 2017121600_t036
chsub 2 2 2017121700_t036
tdef 2 12z17dec2017 24hr
GrADS can figure out the valid time based on those filenames, using a template string like this:
dset ^hycom_glb_912_%iy4%im2%id2%ih2_t%f3_uv3z.nc
but that is designed for a single forecast and assumes that all the files you are templating together have the same initialization time.
