Hi Jennifer,
Probably a silly question
No.
but, how do I set the transparent option while generating the kml file? Is there a new option/flag in the definition?
Sorry for asking, as the documentation is still old and says only how to set to kml output.
set gxout kml
set kml -poly filename
I tried to set the colors through clevs and ccols, but then, I was able to do this with older version of grads too.
Nothing has changed in the protocol for ’set kml’ — the only change is that GrADS will include the alpha channel in the color definition along with the R, G, and B values. All you need to do is use ‘set rgb n R G B A’ and use those defined colors your ‘set ccols’ command.

Dear All,
Brian and I are pleased to announce a new release of GrADS, version 2.1.0. We decided that this build is reliable enough to bypass the beta stage, and so we’ve given it a ‘stable’ version number.
New features include support for GRIB2 Product Definition Templates 60 and 61 (ensemble reforecasts), and for a secondary undef attribute name for NetCDF and HDF4 data types. There are also two new commands: ‘pdefwrite’ and ‘set misswarn’. Bug fixes include station data handling in the const() and coll2grd() functions, the infinite loop in gsfpath(), a tweak to the time metadata in the output from sdfwrite, and support for transparent colors in KML output.
The GrADS downloads web page (http://iges.org/grads/downloads.html) has been updated with links to the source code and pre-compiled binaries for 32-bit and 64-bit linux plus Mac OS X (10.9). The full text from the ChangeLog is copied below.

2016-06-20 Version 2.1.0
Features:
* New command pdefwrite writes out internally calculated interpolation weights
* Added support for GRIB2 PDTs 60 and 61 (Ensemble Reforecasts)
* Added support for a second undef attribute name for netcdf/hdf4 formats
sdfopen will look for "missing_value" (primary) and "_FillValue" (secondary)
works with xdfopen-style and full descriptor files
* Previously undocumented command 'set misswarn' -- enables a warning message
with missing file names for templated data sets.
Bug Fixes:
* Fixed undef handling for BUFR station data
* Fixed undef handling for station data when using -u and -a with const()
* Closed infinite loop when parsing arguments to script function gsfpath()
* Added support for transparent colors in KML output
Misc:
* Changed the logo to "GrADS/COLA"
* Output from sdfwrite command will use 'months since' or 'minutes since'
in time axis metadata depending on what is used in the original data file
* coll2gr() now supports the -u option with a vertical coordinate of height
New Documentation Pages:
* http://iges.org/grads/gadoc/pdefwrite.html
* http://iges.org/grads/gadoc/setmisswarn.html
Supplib Update:
* Linked with g2clib-1.6.0, jasper-1.900.1-ubuntu3.2debian
