[gradsusr] /lib64/libz.so.1.2.3 > /libz.so.1 Static Link Messing Up System

Hi Jennifer,

I tried adding that "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH" line to my .bashrc file to try to point OpenGrADS to where my lib files are but, I am still getting this error when it tries to process the graphic:

/opt/opengrads/Contents/Linux/Versions/2.0.1.oga.1/x86_64/gxyat: /lib64/libz.so.1: version `ZLIB_1.2.3.3' not found (required by /opt/opengrads/Contents/Linux/Versions/2.0.1.oga.1/x86_64/gex/libfontconfig.so.1)

Yes, something like:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/your/path/to/location/of/libraries:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

What if I still want to use gxyat for OpenGrADS?
Have you tried setting the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to a location where libz.so.1.2.3 exists?

I know that you have to create a static link between /lib64/libz.so.1.2.3 and /libz.so.1 but, whenever I do this, it ends up messing up my system (and ruining yum) to the point that I have to re-install CentOS 6.5.

I've been doing this as root, which is the only that it seems to work and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to create this static link safely so that I can still run gxyat and the Linux system can still access the /lib64/libz.so.1.2.3 file.
