     You may wish to try the following approach:-

     'sdfopen filename.nc'
*
    'ua=ave(u,t=1,t=120,4)'
    'va=ave(v,t=1,t=120,4)'
*
   'close 1'
*
   'open filename2.ctl'
*
   ...............
 
   'set gxout shaded'
   ............
   'd co'
  ............
    'set gxout stream'
    'd ua;va'
*
