If you have a recent opengrads bundle installed you will have convenient
access to the NASA MERRA re-analysis through OPeNDAP; in particular, running
the "merra" utility will pop-up a GUI giving you access to pretty much the
whole dataset.  There are a few recipes in the Cookbook dealing with MERRA
