[gradsusr] custom shapefiles with shaded plots

I can't see your linked figure. I am thinking maybe your shapefile is
not polyline but polygon. If that is the point, you can convert your
polygon shapefile to polyline shapefile using a GIS software. or you
can convert the shapefile to GrADS map format using MeteoInfo.
