I'm not 100% sure, but in the first two lines of the CTL where there is a ^
symbol, try changing that so you have the absolute path of the grib2 file.

Subject: [gradsusr] g2ctl gribmap error: Data file type invalid

Hi

I used the g2ctl script to generate a ctl file for a grb2 data file
successfully.

But when I tried:
gribmap -0 -i pgbh01.gdas.197904.ctl
              AND
gribmap -v -b -i pgbh01.gdas.197904.ctl

I got this error message:

Open Error: Data file type invalid
--> The invalid description file record is:
  --> dtype grib2
The data file was not opened.

Here is part of my ctl file content

dset ^pgbh01.gdas.197904.grb2
index ^pgbh01.gdas.197904.grb2.idx
undef 9.999E+20
title pgbh01.gdas.197904.grb2
#
#
#
dtype grib2
ydef 361 linear -90.000000 0.5
xdef 720 linear 0.000000 0.500000
tdef 1 linear 00Z01apr1979 1mo

Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks,
saiguran
