How to obtain an slice of Antarctic topography?

Hi Grads Users,
Please, could you help me with this issue:
I am trying to draw a 2-D topography contour of complete Antarctica from one
coast to the other one at an arbitrary longitud.
I am using the file elev.1-deg.nc from
http://jisao.washington.edu/data/elevation/index.html#grads

So, when I define

set lat -90 -60

of course, I obtain an slice but only from the south pole to 60ºS

when I set

set lat -50 50

the plot is only between 50ºS and 50ºN (not including south pole)
How can I get an slice, for instance, from 50ºS to 50ºN passing by the south
pole ?
