Could it be grib2ctl.pl which is creating these files?

Based on the content of the files, I'd say they were created by wgrib, not GrADS. The grib2 interface in GrADS 2.0 does not create any temporary files. --Jennifer

    This is my build alright.

The build was downloaded from the Open Source grads page.

The tmp files are being created in the top level folder, e.g. c:\

Hmm. Is this hapenning with "gradsdap" or with the regular "grads" (not opendap enabled as in the "q config below")? OPeNDAP does create temporary files for caching. I was expecting these temp files to be created under C:\GrADS20\tmp, not C:\.

Jennifer: Do you write any temp file as part of your Grib-2 caching?

      Thank you,

          Hi,

I'm running GRADS 2.0 scripts against GRIB2 files to generate charts under Windows 2003 server. These are working ok, but on occasion in the route folder of the data volume temporary files are being left behind.

        What is a "route" folder?

          For example:

          g1300.tmp
          3KB
          TMP file

Opening these files in Notepad shows the inventory of the files which are being downloaded. e.g.

          1:110:vt=2008112018:250 mb:250mb:TMP 100,25000 0,0,0 none Temperature [K]
          2.1:7047:vt=2008112018:250 mb:250mb:UGRD 100,25000 0,2,2 none U-Component of Wind [m/s]
          ....
          ....
          X

I know it is safe to delete these temporary files, but can anyone suggest why they are being created and being left behind when the script has completed?

Which build is this? Where did you download your binaries from? Please send result of "q config".
