I used the 'cnvgrib' Linux binary (version 1.1.1) from Gribmaster 5.0,
I don't know if it's optimized.

I run it on i386 P4 machines with FreeBSD 6 and Linux emulation
(kldload linux) and I do confirm those times: 10-15 minutes to
convert, for example, a 260MB gfs global file from GRIB2 to GRIB1.

Possibly such a slowness is due to the linux emulation but currently I
haven't a Linux machine to perform a comparison test.

Unfortunately I was told that's impossible to have 'cnvgrib' compiled
under FreeBSD. I'm not a computer programmer so I can't say *why*
that's impossible.
