Hi Bernd,
You can use ImageMagick to dissolve an image on your plot, something like
this will do:
$ composite -dissolve 100% -geometry +0+0 image_to_dissolve.png
your_plot.png result_image.png
Option "-geometry +0+0" will put your image in the upper right corner.
Better check ImageMagick's documentation at
http://www.imagemagick.org/www/composite.html
