Arlindo,
That worked out well. I set the path as usual then cut and pasted your commands. Had to add explict pathing to the files but otherwise it was all straight forward. As best ican tell I got the results you expected. The test bin file size in the Properties Panel was 42,348 bytes (attached for your review)

>grep -i '2008021312:tmpprs:850 ' c:\progra~1\pcgrads19\data\model_25.inv
12:112911:vt=2008021312:TMPprs:850 mb:850mb

>wgrib2 -d 12 -ijbox 1:145 1:73 test.bin bin c:\progra~1\pcgrads19\data\model_25.grb2
12:112911:d=2008021312:TMP:850 mb:anl:

>wgrib2 -d 12 -ijbox 1:145 1:73 c:\test.bin bin c:\progra~1\pcgrads19\data\model_25.grb2

On another note: In case you're concerned that we're fighting a problem isolated to one computer (a logical assumption), I just wanted to let you know I'm running all these tests on 2 different computers. One a recent Dell laptop (no admin rights) with Win XP Pro, Active State Perl, Grads 1.8 with built-in X Window, WGRIB2 (all in the path permanantly) and Grads19 just copied on the hard drive and then put in the path via the set path command as the first command of the batch files I normally use to do work. Rarely do I use the cmd window to do stuff interactive, though it is great for debuggung. For our tests I've been using the command window exclusively.

The other machine is a Dell desctop running Win XP Home with all the same apps installed in the same way.

I have access to another XP home machine with none of the above apps on it. I have Pcgrads19 on my flash drive. I could try testing off of that as well if required. Was just thinking that having 2 instances of Grads and wgrib with active state perl in the mix, maybe there are some sort of conflicts between executables. Just a thought.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Arlindo,
We're getting closer now...

Yes, we are.

ga-> d g2(tmpprs)
! grep -i '2008021312:tmpprs:850 ' model_25.inv | wgrib2 -inv /dev/null -i -ijbo
x 1:145 1:73 - bin model_25.grb2
grep: model_25.inv: No such file or directory
*** FATAL ERROR: could not open file: model_25.grb2 ***

Error from g2: invalid size on pipe; expected 42340, got 2269192.

OK, let's go back to where the data is, and issue these commands:

      grep -i '2008021312:tmpprs:850 ' model_25.inv

Here is what I expect:

  12:112911:vt=2008021312:TMPprs:850 mb:850mb

wgrib2 -d 12 -ijbox 1:145 1:73 test.bin bin model_25.grb2

I expect the output:

12:112911:d=2008021312:TMP:850 mb:anl:

and a file called "test.bin" of size 42348 bytes.

  Let me know,

     Arlindo
