Hi Monica,
I did the following testings of the above problem
in three different computers:-
(i) Computer A (Dell pentium for use by one person
only)
Operating system : Window XP (in directory C);
GrADS: version 1.8SL9 (in directory C);
an x-server installed in directory C ;
no cygwin installed and tmp (not temp)
subdirectory in C;
data and workarea for GrADS in directory D.
GrADS works beautifully !
(ii) Computer B (NEC pentium for multiusers with one
administrator and only one directory C (=> no further
partition) )
Operating system : Window XP;
GrADS version 1.8SL9 and same x-server installed
by user O in directory C after entering his own user
signon slot;
cygwin installed by user E in C after entering
the administrator's slot;
no tmp subdirectory created in C;
data and workarea for GrADS in user O's
subdirectory;
GrADS also works beautifully !
(iii) Computer C (Acer pentium used mainly by one
person and shared occasionally by others)
Operating system: Window XP;
GrADS version 1.8SL9 and same x-server installed
in directory C;
cygwin installed in C;
tested with tmp and no tmp subdirectory created
in C;
data and workarea for GrADS in directory D.
Same problems occurred with/without tmp
subdirectory in C as shown in the following two
examples:-
Example (1):- [not for netcdf file as in example 2]
-----------
open d:\ncep\4898\data\hgt25.ctl
scanning description file:
d:\ncep\4898\data\hgt25.ctl
open error: data file type invalid
--> the invalid description file record is:
-> dtype grib
the data file was not opened.
Example (2):-
------------
(a) sdfopen d:\cdc\slp\slp.1979.nc
d slp/100
the chart plotted appeared OK !
but when I did
(b) sdfopen d:\cdc\slp\slp.1979.nc
set lon 100
set lat 5
set t 1 3
d slp/100
the graph plotted is OK but grads window
shows the following display (this does not appears in
computers A and B):-
gxstart=0, gxstop=1, gystart=0, gystop=1
gzstart=0, gzstop=1, gtstart=0, gtstop=3
gxstart=0, gxstop=1, gystart=0, gystop=1
gzstart=0, gzstop=1, gtstart=0, gtstop=3
gxstart=0, gxstop=1, gystart=0, gystop=1
gzstart=0, gzstop=1, gtstart=0, gtstop=3
I am puzzled ! Hope you, Derek or anyone else can
help to throw some light on this outcome before I try
to delete cygwin and reinstall GrADS in computer C as
you did to test the new outcome.
Thank you and best regards.
