subsample time series

Hi,

simple question:

how do I sub-sample a time series?

I have 1400  6hourly global fields in one file.

I want to plot the 00:00 time time series
I want to plot the 06:00 time time series
I want to plot the 12:00 time time series
I want to plot the 24:00 time time series

I want to define each in turn
I want to take the max and the min of each of the 4 fields describing
one day.

Do I want too much?
