Connecting to x server problems

Tried to install the grads binaries to a remote centos-4-x86 box last
night, however when executing any of the grads binaries I get the
dreaded error in gxstrt: Unable to connect to X server.

I did try and look through usr group archives but the server must be
hanging up due to the large amount of posts.

Anyone know if there if there is a specific package for a centOS-4-x86 box?

(linux noob by the way!)
