Proceed with the usual
./configure
make
the file you just downloaded must have a README telling how to compile,
then when the make ends with errors, it will complain about a missing
library, and then you can visit [1] looking for the missing files in the
last form you find in that page, you can find the packages that refer to
a certain file.

I compiled on amd64 sarge and it was possible, ultra should work aswell.
