Variable name too long

hi all:

I want to read some variables of a file netcdf,
but I obtain the error.



 Variable name too long - 1st 16 chars are: meridional_wind_stress



( the variables that I want to read are ;
 zonal_wind_speed
 meridional_wind_speed
 zonal_wind_stress
 meridional_wind_stress  )


as I can make to read that?
