Please just tell me what were the ./configure flags that failed, and
how you installed hdf, such that I can try to reproduce the issue you
faced.

No, you need gadods which is completely unrelated with dap-server, maintained
by COLA. It links with libdap, if I'm not wrong. I haven't packaged it for
fedora yet, because the gadods I found don't compile with recent libdap
version. If I'm not wrong this has been fixed at COLA but not yet released.
