segmentation fault while opening grads

John, you did not say how you are connecting from one computer to
another.  But I expect it is ssh, right?  If so, you probably need a
protocol layer called X11 forwarding.  A plain ssh session does not have
all the hooks needed by Grads to operate the separate graphics window.

Either ask your system administration for help with X11 forwarding, or
perhaps someone here more knowledgeable than I can explain the right way
to set it up on linux.
