Display Locations of the Station Data

Dear friends,
I've been trying to draw a map that displays the locations of the weather
stations, and i'd like to display a '.' (dot) on each weather station's
location. I generated the station data and set the followings for the
display:
set gxout wxsym
set wxopt char

which shall plot a character to mark the station location  based on the
ascii numerical value at the station, I set that character by assigning a
value to the surface variable associated with each weather station in the
station data. The value can only range from 1 to 12 as I tried, and no
value can give me a '.' display for the location of the weather station.

Any help is much appreciated!
