Thinned grids can be handled via the "pdef file" option in the descriptor file. It requires a fair amount of work to set up for any particular grid -- a program must be written to produce the file that is used by GrADS. If you are interested in pursuing this anyway, let me know, and I can provide an example of what we did for the ERA-40 grids... Brian
