No, on the contrary. The tarball targets the gd library shipped with
fedora, but the gd library from the supplibs is much older, and there
is a difference between the 2 versions, gdCompareInt is in the older
version only. As you don't use --enable-dyn-supplibs, the libraries
are only searched for and found in the supplibs directory.

Could you join the ./configure output and config.log, please?
