compiling grads1.9b4 on DEBIAN System .... hm ?

Hi all

i ´m trying to compile grads 1.9b4 on a DEBIAN Linux System Kernel
2.6.12.

I can compile gradsc.
But gradsdods cannot be built, because udunit is not available. I
tried to compile udunit with all things i know, but that fails. So i
cannot compile and built gradsdods.  Is there anybody running
gradsdods 1.9b4 on a DEBIAN System Kernel 2.6....  ?

Does anybody has experience on compiling udunit from Unidata on a
actual Debian System ?
