Some years ago, data transfer (such as by ftp) required<br>
"binary" mode. That's no longer true (I hope) but if you<br>
are out of options, it might make sense to send the file<br>
back and ask your colleague to compare the two.<br>

machines have different endianness
(the bits of each<br>

or perhaps byte size (one machine is
32-bit and the other 64-bit). Such
differences helped<br>
motivate the creation of formats like
netCDF. (One can share netCDF data
via "sdfwrite".)<br>
