Can anyone tell me (or point me to a resource) how to import NEXRAD radar data, downloaded from NCDC, into GrADS?

I tried using the NOAA Weather and Climate Toolkit to convert the NEXRAD data to shapefiles, but then I can't get the colors of the polygons to show up. I found a script written by Jennifer Adams (ftp://cola.gmu.edu/grads/scripts/shp_demo3.gs)
that references a radar.ctl file. So there must be a way to do it, but a Google search hasn't lead to anything useful.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
