I wouldn't think it would be necessary to use gxout shaded if you want to save data to shapefiles. When you open the shapefile in another program like ArcGIS, you'll have the option to use a different set of colors then, right?<br>

Basically, set up your two different plotting areas and display either one on each panel.<br>
