<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> Sorry. On second reading of your email in response to my enquiry, I began to understand what you meant. I changed the time definition in my .ctl file to jan71, the time labelling was perfect ! It shifted when I changed it back to nov71 as "GrADS likes to round off the dimension into proper grid". That is fine if I just want the time labelling in terms of year. However, if I wish to label them as nov71, nov80, ... etc, is there any way I can get it done through script while maintaining my .ctl file as it is (i.e. 40 linear nov71 1yr) ? </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> Thank you and best regards.</DIV>

<DIV>Hi John,</DIV>

<DIV> No, it has nothing to do with the changing of the time definition. In the first case, I changed the time definition from "set t 1 40" to "set t 0.5 40.5" in order to accommodate a proper bar chart plotting (see sd.gmf). In the second case, I merely opened the .ctl file in the GrADS display screen, followed by "set t 1 40" and "d sdv". As you can see in sd1.gmf, there is a time shift of one year. In other words, sdv of 1974 was labelled as that of 1975. Can it be caused by a possible bug in the software for an "fwrite" data ? Strangely, when I used the original slp.mean.mon.nc from the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis dataset to do a similar time series plot, the time labelling was perfect ! I am puzzled.</DIV>

<DIV>I guess as you modify the start time definition (tdef) in your ctl file, it will give you what you like label. </DIV>
<DIV>If I were you, I would change the 'nov1971' to 'jan1971'. Just remember you have modified the time definition.</DIV>
