Some hdf4 files have enough attribute metadata so that they can be opened with sdfopen or xdfopen, but that is not the norm. The only way to get GrADS to read an hdf5 file is to provide a complete descriptor with all the required metadata -- there is no support in sdfopen/xdfopen for the hdf5 format. All the metadata you need can be found in the h5dump output. <div>--Jennifer<br><div><br><div><div>On Aug 12, 2009, at 8:23 AM, Yan Libin wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; "><div style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 10px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10pt; "><div><font color="#000080" size="2" face="Verdana">how about hdf-eos format?</font></div><div><font color="#000080" size="2" face="Verdana"></font> </div><div><font color="#000080" size="2" face="Verdana"></font> </div><div><font color="#c0c0c0" size="2" face="Verdana">2009-08-12</font></div><font color="#000080" size="2" face="Verdana"><hr align="left" color="#b5c4df" size="1" style="width: 100px; "></font><div><font color="#c0c0c0" size="2" face="Verdana"><span>Yan Libin</span></font></div><hr color="#b5c4df" size="1"><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"><strong>发件人:</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Jennifer Adams</font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"><strong>发送时间:</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>2009-08-12 20:22:11</font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"><strong>收件人:</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>GRADSUSR</font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"><strong>抄送:</strong></font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"><strong>主题:</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Re: How to convert HDF to netcdf</font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana"></font></div><div><font size="2" face="Verdana">1.
