<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Francesco,</font>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">I have no experience using the downloaded
lat/lon files with GrADS' basemap function, nor transforming to .asc files.
Instead, I have used a simple script to read the lat/lon coordinates, then
draw the map boundaries using the "set line" and "draw line"
functions. So, after drawing a base map (if needed), I run the script to
draw the new map information, then plot my gridded data.</font>

the lat/lon file for Italy. How can I use this file with the basemap function

<br><font size=2>Try this web site: </font><a href=http://www.maproom.psu.edu/dcw/><font size=2 color=blue><u>http://www.maproom.psu.edu/dcw/</u></font></a><font size=2>.
Although some of the political boundaries may be out of date, It
provides a downloadable lat-lon text file ("download points"
option) which you could then read into a GrADS application. If you
have further questions, let me know.</font><font size=3> </font>
