The current GrADS Documentation Index
(http://grads.iges.org/grads/gadoc/gradcomdprintim.html) lists several
PRINTIM options which I am unable to use. Instructions state "printim
works with GrADS version 1.8 (or higher)." Following is the pertinent
excerpt from my command-line (not scripted) session, NOT in batch mode:
I was attempting to create a GIF image
from the displayed contoured (gxout contour) image, the default black background
set to transparent, with the background shaded temperature image tanom.png.
The intended background image (tanom.png) has the same resolution, geo-domain,
and pixel size as the displayed and intended final image. The image
file slptmp.gif was the result, but showed only the top (contoured slp)
image.
Note: Creating images with one or more
overlays is not my problem, since I have plenty experience creating in
GrADS then PRINTIMing the results. However, it would be very useful to
take previously-archived images, along with the transparent color option,
and generate new images.

Fall of 2003. A brief search of the Users Group online archive suggests
that the -b -f and -t options may not be available in this version, notwithstanding
the Documentation Index statement. Can anyone confirm this? If not, will
the appropriate version (1.9?) be available for the Windows NT/XP, etc.
