[gradsusr] How to make wind vectors smooth and clear

I am actually using set csthick 1 , but are not giving me the desired
results. I tried what was suggested here but could achieve desired
results...see my script...see also the figure attached that is produced
with vectors not looking  nice

Examples of the  vectors I wanted to look like are attached in the sample
paper(Figs 4 and 12)
