[gradsusr] NetCDF file with non-float data

Is it possible to open NetCDF file with non-float data ?

I know that for an ordinary NetCDF file (with float data)
.ctl file should contain entries that look like this:
  presSFC=>psfc   0   y,x   Surface Pressure

Is it possible specify somewhere in .ctl that
presSFC variable is non-float (double, short, byte etc) ?
