[gradsusr] Can the grid be thinned before downloading.

Dear Grads users,

I should like to use Hi-Res Rapid Refresh (hrrr) but the resolution of grid points means that download takes much longer than downloading from Rapid Refresh (RAP)

Hrrr        http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov:9090/dods/hrrr                  res   0.028
RAP        http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov:9090/dods/rap                   res   0.185 (discontinued);  0.295 (now)

I understand that skip() thins the displays, but (I suppose) the underlying data are all there in full resolution.

My area of interest contains 21,000 grid points, which I estimate is 170,000 bytes per forecast hr;
                19 hr would be about 3.2 MB.

This, I think, is impractical for a cell phone connection with a weak signal.

Can the download be thinned?

Thanks for your consideration.

Thanks,

Herb
