[gradsusr] Metar data in grib2 format?

Hey guys, is there any way to get current, hourly metar data in grib2
format anywhere? I'm working on a project that would require interpolation
(which is why I thought if GrADS could read/use it...) instead of simply
selecting metar location and I can't seem to wrap my head around how (if
even possible) I'd be able to do this.

Essentially I'm looking for current (and 30 years prior, NOT climo data)
hourly observational data which would allow me to interpolate it so I can
use lat/lon coords instead of strictly location codes.
