[gradsusr] changing x-axis tick intervals when it represents time

Other than full-on brute forcing it (i.e., a loop of 'draw string's...) is
there a command that can be used to change the interval between tick marks
on the x-axis when that axis is a time axis? None of 'set xaxis', 'set
xlint', or 'set xlevs' seems to do what I want (unless I formatted the
arguments incorrectly, which I admit I'm not sure about). Most of these
options seem to be ignored.
