(1) we are using pre-compiled binaries from 
http://www.iges.org/grads/downloads.html. But they are indicated as 
RHEL5 (not 7).

It works fine from WINDOWS 8.1 laptop (Dell) with Xming. I don't have a 
MAC to try.
