[gradsusr] installing Grads version 2.x.x

Could I please seek some guidance. I am trying to install grads from
source. I first tried grads-2.1.a3-src.tar.gz. This does not install
(errors with make && make install).
I then went on to grads-2.0.2-src.tar.gz. This installs ok. However the
INSTALL file in both distributions are for the binary distributions. Hence
it is not easy to guess what options to use to activate some applications.
My configure guess was
"sudo ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-cairo --enable-grib2" . The
two enable options do not seem to have any effect. The output from my
installation is given below.
I would appreciate if anyone has any instructions on how to enable the
options listed as disabled.

  o KML contour output ENABLED
  o Shapefile interface DISABLED
