[gradsusr] Importing MODIS HDF-EOS2 into Grads: Descriptor file

Hi all,

I'm having trouble creating a descriptor file for MODIS LAI data (MCD15A2).
I get the details of the file using the HEG tool.
Through that I can get the dimensions etc.
Here's my descriptor file:
>>
DSET MCD15A2.A2012337.h19v12.005.2012346165141.hdf
TITLE MCD15A2.337.h19v12
OPTIONS YREV
XDEF XDim:MOD_Grid_MOD15A2 1200 LINEAR 13.054072 0.008333
YDEF YDim:MOD_Grid_MOD15A2 1200 LINEAR -39.999999 0.008333
VARS 6
Fpar_1km=>Gridded 1KM FPAR
FparLai_QC=>QC for FPAR and LAI
FparStdDev_1km=>Gridded 1KM Standard Deviation FPAR
Lai_1km=>Gridded 1KM Leaf Area Index LAI
LaiStdDev_1km=>Gridded 1KM Standard Deviation Leaf Area Index
FparExtra_QC=>pass-through QC for FPAR and LAI
ENDVARS
<<

I wrote it with guidance from here:
http://hdfeos.org/software/grads.php (section 4.3.2.2)

There's two issues I have.
1) The description of the projection in the HDF file says,
Upper Left Corner:  -29.999999997    11.547005382
Upper Right Corner:  -29.999999997    23.094010765
Lower Left Corner:  -39.999999996    13.054072891
Lower Right Corner:  -39.999999996    26.108145783

As you can see, it's not a square.
So I'm thinking I need to change XDEF to go from 11.547 to 13.054.
How do I specify this?

2) For some reason "q vars" does not give the individual variables I specified.
It gives info on all variables but calls them all "gridded".
So to display I say "d gridded". But I can't specify for e.g. Fpar_1km.
Strangely "qc" and "pass-through" came out as variables.

Does anyone have an example of a descriptor file for MODIS gridded datasets?

regards,
Mogesh.
